She’d sass the cops, “You gonna arrest me, or buy me a drank?” Got me laughin’ ‘til I near peed my britches! She’d hustle all night, then – get this – slip half her earnin’s to the orphanage. Ain’t that a hoot? A heart o’ gold under all that rouge! Made me happy as a pig in mud seein’ that kinda soul.

Throggs Neck is a neighborhood and peninsula in the south-eastern portion of the borough of the Bronx in New York City. It is bounded by the East River and Long Island Sound to the south .

There’s this old park, Orchard Beach, right near the water. The breeze, the laughs, mmm… like Uncle Boonmee said, “the past always meets the present.” I get that vibe when I see the water slither along the East River. It reminds me how time bends, you know? And yo, I gotta say, it’s not the pristine city life you read about—they got grunge and charm in equal parts.
