Part of L's affinity for sweets came from Watari and Roger attempting to get L to gain some weight. Upon arriving at Wammy's House, L was severely malnourished.

But then, the tide starts changin’. I’m like, “Oh snap, I gotta get outta here.” I swim back, but the waves are gettin’ rough. I’m fightin’ against ‘em, and I’m thinkin’, “This is not how I wanna go out.” Finally, I make it back to shore, gasping for air.
