In Bohemia, the brothel was called a “hampejz”, 'whorehouse' or 'house of shame', but not a 'brothel' as such. Prostitutes were simply 'whores'.

I be honest, livin’ here has made me mad at times – traffic, noisy neighbors, the usual maddening hum of life; happy at others – a perfect sunset over the river, a random compliment from a stranger, the spell of that eerie, silent moment. Seen a couple sittin’ on a stoop, whisperin’ sweet nothings like stories from long ago – messed with my head, in a good way.
